Introduction

Members are encouraged to submit abstracts describing original, completed basic or applied research of relevance to the African Plant Genomics Symposium that has not been accepted for publication in a journal.

Please read all the abstract and poster guidelines and instructions before submitting your abstract.

All abstracts must be submitted electronically on or before 30 December 2024 using the link below.

Abstract Guidelines

  • The abstract should be submitted by the primary (presenting) author who will be listed as the first author on the abstract.
  • The author submitting the abstract is responsible for the content, the quality of the preparation, and for ensuring that all co-authors are properly listed on the abstract.
  • The names, institutional affiliations, emails and country information should be provided for all co-authors.
  • The primary author cannot be changed.
  • The primary author can submit more than one abstract.
  • The abstract should be prepared in a plain text document, e.g. in Microsoft Word.

The Abstract Submission link on the website will take you to the Abstract Submission form where you will be able to submit new abstracts. The following browsers are recommended for submission: Edge, Safari, Chrome or Firefox.

Submitting an abstract

  1. Complete primary author information.
    The primary author (presenting author) must submit the abstract via the Abstract Submission form. The primary author cannot be changed. If you are not the primary author (presenting author), do not complete the submission form.
  2. Complete the abstract details.
    • Abstract title — abstract title should be 300 characters or less, excluding spaces.
    • Abstract body — abstract body should be a maximum of 300 words. Enter or cut-and-paste the body of your abstract from a Word or plain text document into the form. Be sure to double check the appearance of any special characters/symbols you have used in your abstract.

The abstract should include:

  • A sentence stating the study objective
  • A statement of methods
  • A summary of the results
  • A statement of the conclusions
  • Tables/figures are not permitted
  • A minimum of three keywords and a maximum of five keywords are accepted
  • Support for funding — if applicable, include a short sentence acknowledging the organizations/grants that funded the research.

Presentation format

All abstracts will be considered for poster presentation. Selected abstracts will be chosen for oral presentation. The approved abstract and approved mode of presentation will be communicated to the primary author via email.

Poster Guidelines

  1. Posters should be designed in portrait format, with the size not exceeding A0 paper size (841mm x 1,189mm / 33.11″ x 46.81″). The poster should be printed on traditional paper with laminate or on cloth. No landscape poster will be accepted.
  2. Posters should include:
    1. Poster title (top centre), followed by authors’ name, institution, contact email address.
    2. Poster body with content (including figures & tables)
    3. Any potential conflict(s) of interest must be disclosed on your poster.
  3. Poster must be in English or French.
  4. Ensure good legibility, with the following as recommended guidelines:
    1. Lettering should be legible from 1m (3.28 ft.) away
    2. Use larger lettering for the poster’s title and author’s name(s)
    3. The font should be simple, clean-looking typeface that is easy to read
    4. Bullets may be helpful in summarising information.

  6. It is the responsibility of the author to print the poster and to transport it to the symposium venue. The conference organisers will provide material for affixing your poster to the board.

For maximum exposure your poster(s) can be set up from Thursday 10 April 2025 at 08h00. Your poster(s) will need to remain up for the duration of the symposium.

  1. It is the responsibility of the primary author to remove the poster from the board at the end of the symposium. Posters that are not removed by 22h00 on Friday 11 April 2025 will be discarded.
