The African Plant Genomics Network (APGN) was founded in 2025 following the inaugural African Plant Genomics Symposium. Our mission is to empower scientists across Africa who are driving advances in plant genomics and applying them to agriculture, biodiversity, and sustainable development. APGN brings together researchers, technology providers, policymakers, and science communicators to create a vibrant community for learning, collaboration, and knowledge exchange. Whether you’re working in the lab, shaping policy, or sharing plant science with the world, APGN provides a platform to connect, grow, and make an impact.
APGN welcomes both individuals and institutions engaged in or supporting plant genomics across Africa. This includes researchers working in genomics, genetics, molecular biology, bioinformatics, plant breeding, agronomy, conservation biology, and related disciplines.
We also embrace professionals from complementary fields such as science communication, technology, social science, law, ethics, project management, and rural development, recognizing the value of diverse expertise in advancing plant genomics.
Institutions such as universities, research institutes, government agencies, academic societies, NGOs, and laboratory technology providers are also encouraged to join and contribute to building a strong, collaborative network. For this symposium, the term plant genomics will encompass gene discovery, genome sequencing, functional genomics, comparative genomics, bioinformatics, genomics-assisted breeding, and ELSI (ethical, legal and social issues).
We look forward to welcoming you to the African Plant Genomics Symposium 2027
